NEW GOVERNMENT APPOINTMENTS

The new government has appointed Grant Shapps MP as housing minister and Eric Pickles MP as communities and local government secretary; however it is still unclear as to which one of them will have responsibility for planning issues. Both spoke in these areas in opposition and have already intimated at changes to the current planning system as we move through this current parliament. We already know that a part of the price paid by the conservatives to the liberal democrats in order to secure power is the introduction of a whole range of environmental issues one of which is the increase of green space and wildlife corridor provision which could have a dramatic impact upon the developability of a number of projects. We await the finer detail of what will be proposed in reality, but we are sure that the next few months will be an interesting ride!
